Apartment Catastrophe

June 15
Thursday morning Nate woke up to 3 inches of water in the bathroom. As it turns out, there was an equal amount of water in the pantry. When our landlord stopped by, we realized that the problem was because of the sprinklers that were left on the night before. We took everything out of both areas and when Mitch left, I soon realized that it had also leaked into our back bedroom. It was soaked! And because of the location, it had also gotten a lot of my artwork wet. :(
Nate's boss was nice enough to let him take an early lunch so he could help me take care of the situation. We started taking things out to dry in the sun and put some towels down to soak up the mess.

I went next door to see how bad the damage was for our neighbor. Her whole bedroom floor was soaking wet. We had to basically rip her room apart. I felt so bad. While helping her, Nate cleaned out the crawl space. The landlord's dad came by later to help. Nate and Darryl pulled out our neighbor's carpet and pulled up the soggy corner from our second bedroom.

It was a huge mess. I tried to soak up what I could with towels and eventually, we had to move everything in the room out or away from the wet area. Hours passed and our carpet was still wet. Darryl and his wife came over to check on the damage. I made a comment about the foundation and his wife railed on me for at least 5 minutes. I didn't do anything and apologized if I had offended her, but she kept ranting on.

Floating carpet!
They called the carpet cleaner in to float the carpet. He pulled up the corner a little more, put the fan down and stapled the carpet down to the floor and the fan. Within the next 24 to 36 hours, the carpet was dry and we were able to put our room back together. Our landlord, Mitch, came by later and apologized for his mom's behavior earlier. He told us we were great tenants and told us not to worry about the flooding. We are so grateful to have a landlord who is so willing to work with us!
