I Have Now Seen Everything!

Sept 25
I can officially say that I have just about seen everything with angry parents. I help 2nd and 3rd grade teams after school by getting students into their cars at the parent-pickup-lane as fast as they can. You would be surprised how many parents get upset about how we do things. We guide parents to the end of the line so the cars behind them can get in. And some get REALLY mad when we don't let them stop wherever they want to to get their kids.
For instance in one such occurrence....
There was a student whose father decided to stop with 3-4 car spaces in front of him. So we told his son to go toward the front by a certain teacher and that his dad will follow. Well... his dad decided that he didn't want to do that. He honked his horn, cussed and shouted. His son knew what was going on, since this is what we do after school EVERY DAY. He even waved his dad over. But his dad wouldn't have it. So he sped up in the car lane, slammed on his brakes right by his son and then peeled out from the lane. He then pulled out of the parking lot and onto the street, leaving his son behind in the dust. Seriously?! We then tried to get ahold of his dad to come back and pick him up. He very definitively said that his son could walk home. They live near the jr. high school and that's at least, if not close to, a 2 mile walk from the school for a 7 yr old boy! What are you nuts?! His mom was able to convince the dad to come back and get him. But still.
Of course to make matters more interesting, the father then lied to son telling him that we were trying to get him into the wrong car (not true). Fun day, right?
I don't usually complain or talk about the parents from school, but this story was quite interesting... I couldn't resist to share. So crazy!

Nate's Awesome

I was having a hard day and look what Nate brought home for me. :)

Sept 19
Look at how big these pieces of hail are!!! They're HUGE!

Sept 23
Nate finished fixing up the motorcycle, got it licensed and registered. Plus his parents gave him biker gloves. Nate then got himself a helmet and leather chaps.
Nate used it to get to school until it started getting REALLY cold.

A parent from last year was getting rid of all of her girl's baby clothes and offered them to me. She sent home two large bags of clothes for me to go through. Holy moly!
A friend from school gave us THREE tubs of clothes for little girl too. Yeah...that was fun and crazy to go through.

Baby Shower x2

Sept 7
My sister-in-law, Jess, and my best friend, Tania, decided to throw a baby shower for me. I wish more of my gal pals were able to attend, but I was satisfied with those that were able to make it.

There was delicious food (loved the soup) and really good gifts.
We played some fun games. Including the "about-how-big-do-you-think-she-is" game, which was pretty funny. Congratulations Marisha! You got it.
My niece enjoyed claiming her spot all over the house. ;) Love that little one.
 My beautiful, wonderful hosts!

Dani is a good aunt to have. I know Keira will love her.
It was so good to see everyone that came!

My niece did such a good job at watching the other babies, making sure they were okay and that their mothers knew if something was wrong.
After everyone left, Tania had one final gift for me. It was more for me than for little girl. Tania is going to be in Florida for the next four years to serve in US Air Force as a nurse. Years ago, I gave her a build-a-bear for her birthday. So it was only fitting that she gave me a build-a-bear in AF formal attire named Kinnigit (my nickname for her). It was so touching. I love this girl like a sister, literally.

After cleaning up, I ran some errands and then pick Jess and Chloe up to my in-laws baby shower. We used the same banner, it was SOO cute! My sister-in-laws decorated Nate's Grandma's place with many jungle themed decorations. I loved them. Brittney, I loved what you brought to the party! Em, your cake, was inspired. I want to make one now! :)
Zebra cake!

It was good to see and get advice from Nate's side of the family. We loved it.
My in-laws gave us a rocking chair/glider, which was really wonderful. Unfortunately, we weren't able to put it in the car, in the rain. It was pouring! So we took it apart and put it into my parent in-laws' car to get it later. I must say, I think Chloe had a little too much fun.
We headed home that night. What a weekend!
I'm 31 weeks along!!! Can't wait until she gets here.

Park City

Aug 31 - Sept 1
As my due date approaches, I really wanted to spend some alone time with Nate before little girl comes. So we decided to spend a romantic weekend in Park City. We left Saturday morning and watched skiiers complete their summer practice in the pool.
 It was SO cool!
Afterward we walked around the museum, learning all about the history and landscapes for skiing/snowboarding in the state of Utah. Kinda cool.
We went to this pizza place for lunch and then went next door to get gelato! The breadsticks were delicious and the gelato was even more so. Seriously, if you haven't tried gelato, I suggest you go get some and try it right now. DO IT! It's like ice cream heaven with more flavor = AMAZINGLY good! Yum Yum!
After lunch, we walked around the Tanger Outlets to do some shopping. Look at the cute outfits!!! I can't wait for little girl to get here!!! I want these clothes!
After we did some shopping, we went to go for a ride. We were debating between the Alpine Slide and the Alpine Coaster. We wanted to be careful. The guy at the window suggested the Coaster because it's secured to the track whereas the Alpine Slide is not. Sounded good to us! We hopped on board.
The guy giving the instructions was a crack up. "Make sure you brake when you see the white sign. If you don't brake in time, it will stop automatically and you will experience whiplash. Not something that you want to feel. (looks at me) Especially you." :) Thanks man, you are probably right.
So much fun! Your coaster is attached to a chain and will lead you up the hill. Once you are at the top, the chain lets go of you and you can speed down the hill in a zig-zag formation. It's awesome because you can control how fast or slow you go. LOVE it.
We went to this Mexican restaurant for dinner before heading back to our hotel.

The following morning, we decided to window shop in the older part of Park City. We got to see a lot of cool art, but not before we saw this legitimate sign. I wonder why only a prius can park there. Car-ist!

Nate had to do some stuff for his calling after church, so we headed home later that morning.
It was a good adventure. I can't wait to go back!

Happy Birthday Nate!

Aug 25
Nate's birthday is actually on Monday, but since he has to work that day, we decided to celebrate it last night.
We invited the Dunbars over for a little BBQ. It was so good. I love hotdogs. :) We sat outside drinking cream sodas, eating our dinner and chatting it up. We then played a few rounds of bocce ball.

Nate was so excited about the fact that he got the bike to work, so he had to show it off a little. Gotta love him.
We recently saw The Lone Ranger this summer, so I got him legos.
He loved them!!!
Happy Birthday Nate! You are one amazing guy! I'm so glad that you are MY husband and that I get you for eternity. You are so spiritual and loving. Our little girl is going to have one great daddy. I love you! You are the man of my dreams and more. Thanks for never giving up on me and inspiring me to be a better individual.

Back to School

Aug 20 - Aug 21
Ready or not, school starts tomorrow and I met the parents tonight. Parents scare me. You don't know them and they stare into your soul, slicing it up into pieces with their minds. Also,...
my principal pulled me aside yesterday saying that he pulled several kids that had been here last year because the community's opinion feels I am mean. Say WHAT?! He'd been stopped in the parking lot, at church, and has received phone calls about how their children came home saying I was mean or that I made them cry with something I said or did. My boss didn't feel I was mean and so became very confused.
VENT: I really dislike the fact that quite a few parents around here feel entitled to run the school at their beckon call. Let the teachers and staff do their jobs. Stop the micro-managing!
After this conference, naturally, I felt terrible! What did I do? I was going through my first trimester of my pregnancy--I'm going to be moody and miserable. You've had children, don't you understand? When students know the rules and expectations and choose to not follow them, how then is it the teacher's fault that they are in trouble?
I met with a lot of parents that night and quite a few were optimistic and pleasant to coerce with. I was feeling very hopeful about the new school year; much better than last year. I did, however, have a parent that through me off guard. First thing she said was that her daughter doesn't do well with yelling and asked if I was going to yell in the classroom. Not knowing how to respond, I said, "I don't think so. I don't think I yell." She then told me again how they don't do yelling. It was very odd.

First day of school is here. Not only am I nervous, but also excited. I hope my class enjoys what I have in store for them. They were a little chatty all day, but I don't blame them. It was probably the hottest day of the summer and the A/C wasn't working in the school nor was my microphone. A change in weather means a noisy classroom. I had to talk over them quite a bit to get their attention, luckily I know how to be loud. I was quite excited about how the day had gone overall, when I  saw one of my students in the office. I asked her how she was and she didn't respond, just looked down at the floor. I then saw her mom walk out from behind the counter in the office. She had just talked to the principal. I said hello as friendly as I could. She ignored me, stuck her nose in the air and walked out of the school. Then my boss called me into his office. My initial thought was, 'Oh-kay...I wonder what's going on.' He told me that her daughter 'perceived a lot of yelling' (do incoming 2nd grade students even know what the word perceived means?), so as per request, he was going to take her out of my class for my protection. It took everything I had to not cry while the seconds ticked by in his office ever so SLOWLY. I knew he was trying to look out for me, especially with the previous complaints, but I felt like the world was against me.
I came home in tears. Nate did his best to console me. What started out as great day, became ruined by another's comments on my teaching (she doesn't even know me!)

I found out later that she is a good friend of the aide that hates my guts. What do you think happened?

Remediation & 3D Ultrasound

Aug 5 - Aug 16
Since none of my 1st grade co-workers were available to do the remediation over the summer, I got roped into it. I didn't mind too much since that meant I got to use the money for whatever I wanted (Nate said so). It was pretty hard two weeks. I had students who were going to be in first grade and some who were going to be in 2nd grade at the same time. Trying to accommodate both parties needs at the same time is difficult; quite the juggling act. On top of that, I had an aide working with me, who (I'm pretty sure) hates my guts, but then was "fake" nice to my face. (She asked for her daughter to be taken out of my class)
Fortunately, I got to put my classroom together afterward and it was only for 3 hours a day.
I decided to spend the extra money on a macbook Pro since my laptop is on its final leg.

After the last day of remediation, I went to get a 3D ultrasound of our little miss. I tried to drink a lot of water so we could see her easily--it didn't work. Little miss had her face up against the placenta, so we couldn't get a good face shot.
 Long feet!

The technician also told me that she would have hair. SO cool!
After the ultrasound, I went to the lab to be tested for gestational diabetes. They failed to mention that I need to fast for 6-8 hours, so I had to come back later that day. Frustrated that I had to drive to Roosevelt twice in one day, but its what happened. I hope my test comes back negative.
Catch ya later!
