Blue and Gold Banquet

February 5th
Nate and I are the Webelos leaders for our ward. It was time for our Blue and Gold Banquet. Sister Bingham planned it so that it was a picnic theme. We wanted it to be simple. So the boys and their families brought blankets to lay on. Each family, got a balloon and picnic basket to be the centerpiece. It was really well done.
We had KFC and Capri Suns for dinner.
Our boys "gave" (really it was Sis. Bingham) us this thank you basket for our time working with us. Nate and I got really excited about the Cafe Rio giftcard! :)

After dinner, we had the chocolate cake from KFC too (my fave!) and then the boys played games. We forgot to bring one, but it didn't matter since the boys were very intrigued by the game Jenna brought.
It was a great night!

100th Day of School

January 29th
The 100th day of school is here! My students were really excited. We talked about 100 basically all day long. We wrote about many different things. What we would do with $100. If we had 100 of one item, what would it be? What we wouldn't want 100 things of. We wrote 100 numbers and 100 letters. And so much more.
We even rotated our classrooms for 15 minutes each, talking about the number 100 with different games.
At the end of the day, I passed out this treat to remind my students about the fun we had today.

Eventful Saturday

January 26th
This Saturday was pretty eventful. Around 11 o'clock, our ward had a chili cook-off  with a variety of different chilis to try. It was good to visit with the ward. We ate with the Dunbars and the Lemon family. It was good to socialize with those that are in a similar position of life as we are. We got back around noon and then Nate left with some of the guys to go ice fishing. This is his catch + 2 more.
While he was gone, I finished making this homey decoration.
Later when Nate got back, he cleaned and froze the fish and then we went to dinner with the Dunbars. We didn't realize this until we got there, but they enjoy sushi as much as we do. I will admit, I didn't always like it. It is somewhat of an acquired taste, but I completely enjoy it now.
Each couple got two small rolls and a big one. Nate and I enjoyed the Vegas roll. It seriously is an explosion of flavor in your mouth. It is just that good!
Thanks Mallory and Randall for going out with us. We had a blast!

Knitting + Relaxing

January 19 and 20
I've been working on appliqueing circles onto the white squares for my mom's quilt. The next part was to applique pictures of the family onto the colored squares. I'm still working on that, but it's a work in progress.
After seeing my sister-in-laws cute ruffle scarf over Christmas, I decided that I wanted to make one. I learned how to knit when I was in 4th grade from my grandma.
As you can see, I didn't stop with the ruffle scarves....

I made Nate a beanie to match his winter dress scarf.

Dinner Guests

January 18
My co-worker, Anna, has been loads of help during my first year of teaching. So Nate and I decided to invite her and her husband over for dinner as a thank you to her kindness. We had caramelized chicken wings, twice baked potatoes and asparagus. It was delicious! I think they enjoyed it too.
It was good to have them over. Anna made Southern Banana pudding for dessert. It was really good. We continued to talk up the evening for about an hour before Anna and Jed had to leave for a viewing.

Boarding with the Dunbars

January 12
On Saturday, we decided to go boarding with the Dunbars at Sundance ski resort. We drove for about two hours before getting our gear on. I had to rent my board and boots, but that wasn't too big of an issue. I hadn't been snowboarding in two years, so it was interesting to see how it would go.
Each lift we got on seemed to take us to a new part of the resort, it was kind of cool. When we got to the top of the mountain, you could barely see anything it was so foggy and snowy. Eventually I started getting hungry, so we headed back to the lodge to get a bite. Mallory and I stayed inside for awhile before heading out again. The boys took off pretty quick.
We took our time, managing to get two runs in before we had to head back. When we got to the bottom of the slope, we noticed that the boys were laughing about something. It didn't take long to see what it was about.
Nate accidentally ran over log hidden in the snow and it broke his board in two. Good time to head back. We return my board and boots, then hopped into the car to head back. We stopped at Dairy Keen in Heber for some hot chocolate. I got fries on top of it. It was delicious and well needed.
Dairy Keen is a delicious place. If you are in the mood for a good shake or burger, stop by in Heber. It's awesome! We soon headed back to Vernal.
